The Federal Skilled Worker Class has been one of the most popular immigration programs bringing thousands of immigrants to the country each year. It was established for applicants who are selected to immigrate to Canada because of their work experience and skills. This class is one of the three federal immigration classes covered by Express Entry application processing system.
Eligibility Requirements
To meet the minimum eligibility criteria to be able to apply to the Federal Skilled Worker Class in Canada, you must:
- At least 1 year of paid full-time experience (or an equal amount of paid part-time work experience) in the past 10 years in a skilled occupation classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level 0 (managerial occupations), A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades).
- English or French language ability equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in English or French in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Educational credential - degree, diploma, or certificate with the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.
Once it has been determined that an applicant meets the minimum eligibility requirements, they must show that they have sufficient settlement funds to support themselves and any dependents after their arrival in Canada.
Candidates that meet the minimum eligibility criteria are then assessed based on the following six selection factors:
- Age
- Experience
- Education
- Language abilities, and
- Adaptability
These factors are part of a 100-point grid used to assess eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. You earn points for how well you do in each of the 6 factors. The current pass mark is 67 points.
